[Emotions move across her face like water, an infinity of reaction. Taken. Brought. Always moving, being moved, like a playing piece.

Sephiroth is dressed for battle-- she won't be seen as vulnerable, not like this, not now. As if in response to her thoughts, shadows seem to lengthen around her, moving to cover her body. When they move away, the white shift is gone, black clothing in its place. Her hand is empty. She misses her weapon.]

[When the woman clothes herself in that way, it gives her pause. Even she cannot do something like that. It's inhuman. So then, this woman is not human?]

Kadaj. [She repeats the name thoughtfully. It is wholly unfamiliar to her. There are many questions she wants to ask, but she knows that now is not the time to ask them. Kadaj, whoever and whatever she is, is hostile to her, though fortunately not (yet) violent. She is also understandably distressed. Sephiroth is still wary, but very curious. It is curiosity that makes her take another step closer. Her tone is calm when she speaks.]

I'm sure you don't wish to be here. I do not. Unfortunately, there is no way to leave of our own volition. People do return to their homes, but at random, without warning.

[As Sephiroth steps forward. something in Kadaj seems to give momentarily.]
No! No, I won't stay. No one can make me stay in this place, without mother, without my sisters, without-- it was different before! There is nothing here for me! Only you. You shouldn't be. Not without the Reunion. How can there be Reunion in this place?

[There is only a breath between sad, angry child, and sneering adult.]

I thought your will was strongest, your sword swiftest. Why have you not killed this "Queen"?

[Sisters... What does that mean? Sisters and mother--she doesn't understand how this young woman is connected to her. She has no family, none she will acknowledge.

She can tell that Kadaj is erratic--perhaps she is disoriented, perhaps it is her natural state, or both--so she remains calm in response.]

You may be from a later time than I am. The people here come from different times as well as different worlds. [Is she from a later time or a different world? It is hard to tell. Kadaj does know her, and knows her as female, unlike the others from worlds like hers.]

That is true. [Sephiroth might sound arrogant to someone overhearing, but she is stating the truth as she has experienced it. The sneer in Kadaj's voice does not offend her.] I would kill her if I could find her, but I have not found her yet. I do not know what kind of creature she is.

[Kadaj throws back her head, causing her hair to fall back around her face. Her expression is disdainful, but it seems to be a general sentiment. Watchful and shining, her eyes never move from Sephiroth.]

Perhaps I've come to save you, then--Sephiroth. It doesn't matter what kind of creature she is to me. This time, I'll do what you cannot.

[She is not offended. In fact, she is pleased by the young woman's confidence. Confidence is a trait she likes to see in others. She holds Kadaj's gaze, still fascinated by her.]

That is unlikely. There are a number of powerful beings here. All of them have tried, but this Queen cannot be located. It is possible that she is not truly present. Or that she does not, in fact, exist.

Not exist? [The idea seems to infuriate Kadaj anew.]
Then why! Why would I be brought here? Why would you? I won't be fooled, I won't be interfered with! What I want, I will find. It doesn't matter to me how I get it.

You have your weapon. Where is mine?

There is no way of telling, Kadaj, at least not yet. Most of us want to return home, but the Queen guards her secrets. We must be patient. I have been researching the matter.

[Sephiroth isn't sure about the wisdom of allowing this person to have a weapon. Her own weapon came through with her, so perhaps this woman's weapon is nearby as well, but perhaps not.] I do not know where it is. What kind of weapon do you use?

You should know better than most, I was not made for patience. Neither was my weapon.
